David Moyes

David Moyes: "I wasn't offered the Man United manager's job, Fergie just told me 'You're next' "
David Moyes insists he had no inkling of the possibility prior to Ferguson’s call and said: “It was a really strange situation for me.
“I had no idea whatsoever. I knew nothing at all until Sir Alex gave me a call and asked me to come to his house.
“I was expecting him to say ‘I’m going to take one of your players’ or something else.
“I went in and the first thing he said to me was ‘I’m retiring’.
“I said ‘When?’, because he was never retiring and he said ‘next week’. “And his next words were ‘you’re the next Manchester United manager’.
“So I didn’t get the chance to say yes or no. I was told that I was the next Manchester United manager and that was enough.
“As you can imagine, the blood drained from my face. I was really shocked. More shocked that Sir Alex had chosen to retire.
“But inside I was incredibly thrilled that I was going to be given the chance to manage Manchester United."

Ronaldo wishes Neymar Should chose Madrid
7/8/13
The former Santiago Bernabeu star, who also spent a spell at Camp Nou, says the 21-year-old has already achieved legend status in Brazil
Brazil striking legend Ronaldo has revealed that he would have preferred Neymar to chose Real Madrid overBarcelona.
The 21-year-old joined the Catalans for €57 million in June, choosing to sign a five-year contract with theBlaugrana over the Blancos, who were also chasing his signature.
Ronaldo, who spent one year at Camp Nou and five years at the Santiago Bernabeu, admits that the move would not have been his ideal option but believes that the Brazilian "legend" will still thrive at Tito Vilanova's side.
"I would have preferred him [Neymar] to sign for Madrid, but it's not for me to say," he told reporters in Las Vegas.
"With so many clubs after him it was difficult to pull off. But Barcelona is a great team and we know he'll do well in Europe. For us Brazilians he is already a legend."
Neymar was one of the stars of the Confederations Cup for the victorious Selecao in June and scored the second goal in Luiz Felipe Scolari's side's 3-0 win over Spain in the final
Goal 50: Class of 2012-13
7/8/13
The countdown to the Goal 50 has begun and the debate is raging over which star performers from the season should be included in this year's list of football's most talented
School is out for much of the football world but the class of 2012-13 can still look forward to the annual prize-giving ceremony that is the Goal 50.
Our brilliant artist Omar Momani has drawn up his vision of the high achievers in contention for the list - which will be announced on July 29.
Bayern Munich trio Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery and Thomas Muller are sitting in the front row accompanied by Brazilian superstar Neymar.
Behind are La Liga legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo next to Robert Lewandowski, scorer of four goals for Borussia Dortmund against Real Madrid in last season's Champions League semi-final.
The Premier League may be flagging behind Germany and Spain, but Gareth Bale has stood out. The Tottenham totem sits with enigmatic Liverpool striker Luis Suarez and Mario Balotelli, who has lit up Serie A since joining AC Milan in January.

The Real Madrid star has been has been named as one of 10 contenders for the prize, which aims to reward the best player in the world over the age of 28
Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has been announced as one of 10 nominees for the 2013 Golden Foot award.
The Portugal international would be the first player from his country to win the prize, which was first given out in 2003, and aims to reward the best player in the world over the age of 28.
Team-mate Iker Casillas and Barcelona's Andres Iniesta have also been nominated.
Past winners of the award, which takes into account the whole of a footballer's career as well as current form, include Roberto Carlos, Ronaldinho, Francesco Totti, and last year's winner, Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Players can only win the prize once, which has been presented at a ceremony in Monaco every year since its inception.
The 2013 trophy will be given out by Prince Albert II of Monaco in September, with the winner leaving a cast of their footprints in Monte Carlo's 'Champions Promenade.'
Nominees are chosen by a panel of representatives of Golden Foot's media partners, with a public vote then taking place online.
Alongside Ronaldo, Casillas and Iniesta are: Samuel Eto'o (Anzhi Makhachkala), Andrea Pirlo (Juventus), Didier Drogba (Galatasaray), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Miroslav Klose (Lazio), David Trezeguet (River Plate) and David Beckham (Paris Saint-Germain prior to retirement).
Messi to resume Barcelona training after one-week holiday
7/8/13
The Argentina international is seven days away from returning to the Catalans for pre-season after a summer filled with activities across the world
Lionel Messi will resume Barcelona training on July 15 after enjoying just one week of holiday following a summer filled with various commitments. The prolific attacker's 2012-13 campaign came to an end on June 15 after Argentina's 4-0 friendly win over Guatemala, meaning Messi would have a full month off before the start of the new season.
However, the Blaugrana forward then took off for a series of charity games across the world, coming to an end this weekend in Chicago.
Messi has travelled over 90,000 kilometres since the end of Barcelona's season, visiting Argentina, Ecuador, Guatemala, Italy, Senegal, Colombia, Peru and USA.
The 26-year-old was being plagued by physical problems at the end of last season and his brief summer break will do little to reassure Barca's medical staff about his fitness ahead of the 2013-14 campaign.
